The wall that is missing in the lower pic was taken down with only a saw to remove the door frame. The window frame fell out with the bricks as they were LIFTED off by hand, no hammer, chisel or anything! We knew it wasn't very good but the actual condition of the wall shocked us! Thankfully the original house has much better brickwork as I discovered when putting a doorway through it, where the frame is resting.
This is what has kept me from my PC this summer. I built this from digging the foundations to the flashing over the roof!

This it what the space looked like on April 16 - having been tidied up! But before the real work started!
And below The Work Has Started!

Please go to my photo album for a load more pics of my years work, if you are a glutton for punishment!
My partner, Sandy has had this house for several years and has always wanted a conservatory on the space at the side of the house and behind the garage. So when I moved in 2 years ago it was something that was talked about. Around Easter we saw a offer on conservatories at a local store and took the plunge!
What a plunge, I've always enjoyed DIY and done a kitchen and a couple of bathroom refits over the years but nothing really to prepare me for this. We took down the back garage wall, it was falling down anyway! And then the job really started, lifting slabs, deep trenches, lots of concerte, bricks (about 2000 in all), lots of mortar, large sheet of polythene, slabs of polystyrene, even more concrete, laying bricks with more mortar and that was before the kit was delivered at the end of June and all in spare time!
I needed to get the structure secure before our holiday at the end of July, a deadline just achieved, and since then progress has been less frantic! However it is now pretty complete with central heating installed, window blinds and internal access from the house through a new doorway.
It is now the first place we go when we come home and is providing Sandy with a tranquil setting for her current convelesance.
Also peeking into the shot is Chrissie the rough collie (Lassie dog) who believes she is the real boss of the establishment .
